The National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), founded in 1942, is a public research institute ascribed to the Spanish Ministry of Defence. Therefore, it is a government organisation under the direct government decisions from the State Secretary of Defence.
INTA is conceived as a public institute specialising in aerospace research and technology development. Among its main functions, INTA provides technical advice and services to government bodies and agencies, as well as to industrial or technological companies. INTA has an extensive experience in space technology and scientific research, as well as in the application of these technologies at ground level.
Since 1962, INTA has supported and promoted R&D processes for any type of aeronautical and scientific programmes and activities. Many tests are carried out at the research centre ‘El Arenosillo’ (INTA/CEDEA). At ‘El Arenosillo’, INTA is responsible for the following: preparation, security and control; radar and video monitoring; data recording and evaluation of operations; military and industrial matters; and the field of acceptance, certification, integration, qualification and training (tactical, or in general).
INTA also provides support to the Spanish and other international armed forces as well as to the aeronautics and aerospace industry.
The TecnOlivo project is part of the priority lines of the RPAs Centre and the Renewable Energy Area at INTA, focusing on the evaluation and demonstration of technologies related to the integration of equipment in unmanned systems, and their coupling with different energy storage technologies in airplanes.
