OLIVE MANAGEMENT THROUGH RPAs

Comprehensive, ecological and optimised solution for obtaining, processing and interpreting data to improve olive cultivation through the use of RPAs and ground sensors.

Technologies for the management and supervision of olive cultivation

The Project

The TecnOlivo project proposes the development of a marketable and easy-to-use technological solution that allows integrated, ecological and optimized management of the olive grove through non-invasive monitoring of key agronomic parameters.

The solution will consist of an autonomous aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with sensors that, together with a terrestrial sensor network, will be able to monitor key parameters of the olive grove.

The UAV and the network will integrate communication devices for the transmission of the acquired data to a server equipped with the artificial intelligence for the correct interpretation of the data.

Finally, a set of applications for mobile devices will show, in a user-friendly and in the form of illustrated maps, the farmer which parts of the olive grove need irrigation or any kind of treatment, and to what extent.

Easy to Use

A user-friendly system managed by the olive grower. TecnOlivo is conceived as optimised tool to help with the daily work within the field as other farm equipment, or the tractor itself.

Resource Optimisation

Holistic solution that integrates the obtainment, transmission, processing, interpretation and representation of data for the olive grower in a way that allows for maximising the yield of the olive grove resources.

Air Monitoring

The use of the RPA provides the olive grower with a new scope through which to monitor olive crops, and thus access the estimation and/or evaluation of various agronomic parameters related to their status.

Tailored-made Solution

A dynamic configuration system. A sensor network adaptable to the different areas of the olive grove, based on their interest in relation to the variability that they show.

The Team

The project is led by the full-professor of the University of Huelva, José Manuel Andújar.

Apart from the researchers of his group, called ‘Control and Robotics TEP 192’, TecnOlivo partners include the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA, Spain), led by Fernando Isorna, director of the Energy Laboratory; the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV, Portugal), led by Benvindo Maças, director of INIAV – Pól Elvas; Ubiwhere Lda. (Portugal), led by Rui A. Costa, co-founder of the SME; the Sociedad Cooperativa Andaluza Nuestra Señora de la Oliva (Oleodiel, Spain), led by Francisco Domínguez, managing director of Oleodiel; and Murtigao – Sociedade Agrícola, S.A. (ELAIA, Portugal), represented by Juan Carlos Cañasveras, R & D director of ELAIA.

We improve the sustainability of olive cultivation,
favouring an optimal use of the existing resources.
